About Readers’ Theatre–

For over fifteen years, NLT’s Readers’ Theatre has presented free staged readings to showcase a variety of classic and contemporary works. Originally developed by local director Penny Potenz Winship, each play is carefully curated to offer actors a creative challenge and audiences a unique experience.

We often choose works that are cutting-edge, unusual, or unlikely to be produced as a mainstage show at the Nutley Little Theatre. This may come down to topic, producibility, prohibitive performance rights, unpublished material, etc.––but one guarantee remains: Reader’s Theatre gives back to our community for their support and patronage of regular mainstage productions.

Moving forward, we aim to increase our outreach and cater to the diverse community of northern New Jersey. We pledge to provide a space for voices that have historically been underrepresented on our stage for too long. Our Readers’ Theatre presentations will focus on presenting impactful works that explore, navigate, and elevate the diversity around us.
